ATLANTApix: Egyptian Ballroom

Egyptian Ballroom (balcony) at the Fox Theatre
Egyptian Ballroom at the Fox Theatre
The discovery of King Tut's tomb had a major impact on early 20th Century architecture and the Fox Theatre incorporated the sensation in the design of its Egyptian Ballroom.

From the carpet, ceiling, stage, balcony (photo), grand columns, drapes, and lighting, every element of the Egyptian Ballroom makes you feel like you've made a discovery as big as Howard Carter.

Today, the Egyptian Ballroom is used for corporate events, proms, and weddings for up to 1,100 guests.

ATLANTApix: Rhodes Hall

Rhodes Hall, The Castle on Peachtree
Rhodes Hall (The Castle on Peachtree)
It's a challenge to convey the grandeur and beauty of Rhodes Hall, former home of Rhodes Furniture founder, Amos Rhodes. This weekend, the "Castle on Peachtree" will be the site of many, many weddings.

Cupid at the Castle will take place this Saturday, February 12, 2011. Couples can reserve a time slot of 15 minutes for a modest donation of only $225 (that has to be the absolutely best deal in Atlanta for premium event space) and can have up to 20 guests. A minister, photographer, and a beautiful setting will be prepared to ensure that their wedding day is as unique as it is special.

Headquarters of The Georgia Trust for Historic Preservation since 1983, Rhodes Hall is available for weddings of the more-than-15-minutes variety throughout the year.

ATLANTApix: Oceans Ballroom

Oceans Ballroom in Georgia Aquarium
Oceans Ballroom in Georgia Aquarium
Boasting the title as Atlanta's top attraction, Georgia Aquarium offers its Oceans Ballroom for special events, meetings, and even weddings.

The last time I was in Oceans Ballroom, it was between events, so all visitors could check out the venue. The time before that there was the coolest antique car show...a stark contrast to the wet world of ocean life, yet it was a perfect setting for land-lovers and their autos. As a tourist, be sure to stop by to ensure you don't miss a really cool exhibit.

With its ceiling waves awash with soothing colors, its portals to the Aquarium (where you can see whales, sharks and rays while dining, dancing or listening to an inspirational speech), and catering by Wolfgang Puck Catering, the Oceans Ballroom is certain to provide the setting for an exciting, long-remembered event...or cool exhibit, whichever you see first.
