A few days ago I wrote about Gibbs Gardens' Japanese Gardens, which are spectacular...but they're only one garden of the 220 acres of display garden. Today, I'm going to share with you a little more of the rest of the Garden.
Gibbs Gardens has to be one of the most wonderful discoveries I've made since starting wanderlust ATLANTA...it's truly that mind-blowing amazing! When I went I walked the grounds for 3.5 hours! And there was still a lot that I didn't see.
There are 16 garden venues, each unique and special in its own way. The Grandchildren's Sculpture Garden is brilliantly done...one adorable sculpture after another!
I was beyond amazed at how there was something spectacular around EVERY corner....pops of color, statuary, sculpture, water features, creeks, and millions and millions of flowers!
In addition to the gorgeous maples in the Japanese Garden, there are others all throughout the remainder of the Garden offering deep reds and oranges everywhere.
The estate is split into two larger sections...the Manor House Gardens are at a higher elevation, not wheelchair friendly by the way (but there's a tram that goes up there), and the Valley Gardens, which are totally wheelchair friendly.
The Manor House itself is where Mr. and Mrs. Gibbs live, but they invite visitors to kick off their shoes and walk in the grass, enjoy a lounge chair by the pool, and have fun exploring the gardens around the house. They do ask that visitors not peek in the windows (which some people were rudely doing anyway...naughty people--and they were grown ups!).
The swimming pool, right next to the Manor House, is beyond splendid. There are multiple water features, lots of seating, and I just know there has been some incredible parties hosted around that pool. Visitors are invited to spend as much time around the pool as they like, but swimming is not on the menu.
One of the gardens back down in the Valley Gardens is the Monet Waterlily Gardens, which features a replica of the bridge in Monet's Garden at Giverny (outside Paris). It's also covered in wisteria, one of my absolute favorite flowering plants.
Like I said, surprises around every corner...I don't think I've ever seen a tree quite like this!
Gibbs Gardens is less than an hour outside of Atlanta...shorter than my commute to work sometimes, so in reality, it's not far at all. The town of Ball Ground, Georgia, itself is incredibly charming...tiny, but bursting with charm.
The Garden's Welcome Center is just as landscaped as the rest of the Garden...they're not wasting time letting you know what to expect once you're inside.
Well, I didn't see any lions, but tigers and bears I did see! The artwork in this 220 acre Garden is outstanding! Mr. Gibbs has been working on the Garden for more than 30 years, but I think it was a full-time job...there's so much going on here!
Hope you enjoyed this brief little tour. Head over to the wanderlust ATLANTA Facebook Page and you'll find another 30-40 other photos I made while enjoying Gibbs Gardens. Enjoy!
