Skateboard Art...Everywhere!

"Skate It Or Hang It? The Evolution of Skateboard Art" is brilliant!

Gallery One at MODA for the Skate It Or Hang It exhibition
Skate It Or Hang It? The Evolution of Skateboard Art
I recently went to see the newest exhibit at the Museum of Design Atlanta, otherwise known as MODA, which is one of my favorite Atlanta museums...and we have a LOT! This time I didn't wait until the last week...it's showing through September 16.

There are literally hundreds of skateboard decks in this exhibit. In Gallery One alone there are 148! Those are super cool too...they range from 1978 to 2012. Some real beauties.

And you're going to see a lot of styles of art and art subjects...from anime to brain-eating zombies (all the The Walking Dead fans will like that series) and cartoon characters to Yoda (a personal favorite), there's lots to keep your attention.

In addition to the skateboard decks, there's other art, artifacts, a how-it's-made display, and super cool is an interactive display that shows video clips of various skateboard tricks. I knew hardly any of the names, but watched every one of the clips. You'll definitely glean a bit of skateboard culture lingo while going through this exhibit.

And on your way out, you get to place a sticker, which are important in skateboard culture, on a giant skateboard. Really, it's giant...at least 7 feet tall! But before I left, I had a great conversation with Katie. All the staff there who I've met (Brenda, Laura, Katie) have all been super nice. That's one of the main reasons I keep going back!

Now head on over to wanderlust ATLANTA's Facebook Page to see lots more photos from the exhibit. Remember to "Like" the page while you're there!
